Kabaddi
The british left a lot behind when they moved out of India in1947- the railways , telegraphs and not to forget major educational and social reforms and their influence also extended on sports as well. They introduced a sport in India that came in as a gentlemen's game - Cricket. Cricket became a very important and influencing sport in every Indian's life. Before the spread of cricket into our streets there was another which used to unite us made us hold hand in hand a sport that strengthened bond between rival teams and even between villages.
A sport which made us smell the soil and utter one word again and again Kabaddi, Kabaddi, Kabaddi!. With kabaddi being a village sport it also had its roots in the idea of defending one's own territory.
Kabaddi is a team sport. It is played between two teams of seven players. The objective of the game is for a single player referred to as a raider run into the opposing team's half of a court touch out as many defenders possible and return back to the other own half of the court without being tackled. Players are taken out of the game if they are touched or tackled down and are brought back in, for each point scored by their team. The time limit for each single raid is 30 seconds.
In 1950 All India Kabaddi Federation came into existence and compiled standard rules and regulations. India has won 3 World Cups and many gold medals in Asian games.
PRO KABADDI LEAGUE - PKL
Pro kabaddi league is one of the main reasons for the revival of the game again in India. It was introduced in 2014 in India with eight franchises based at eight different cities in India consisting of players across the world. Pro kabaddi league laid a platform for youngsters to show their talent and encouraged them to take up the sport.
This league has helped many players to get selected for the Indian National Kabaddi Team and also provided financial support to players from poor background.
